Formerly Chief Executive of the Education and School Improvement Service (ESIS) and schools’ Chief Adviser for the local authorities of Bridgend, Caerphilly, RCT & Merthyr Tydfil; County Councillor for Llandaff 1995-2008; member of the Llandaff Conservation Area Advisory Group & as Chair 1996-2008; formerly a trustee of Cardiff Bay Arts Trust (1996-2004), and BBC Cardiff International Festival of Musical Theatre (1999-2004).

As a County Councillor for 13 years served as a member and Chair of a range of Cardiff Council committees.

In professional capacity as Chief Adviser for schools was charged with leadership & full executive responsibility for a four local authority collaborative service, all staff, publications, conference centre & resources. Gregory was responsible for advising elected members, corporate and senior officers, school governors and headteachers. He was Chair of Board of Management; reporting & Chief Executive to the governing Four Authority Joint Committee of Elected Members.

Taking early retirement from local government during reorganisation, he is currently continues to serve as an accredited Inspector of Schools [RgI] both as a lead reporting inspector and additional inspector with Estyn, [Her Majesty’s Inspectorate for Education & Training in Wales]. Also currently serving as one of the six members of the Independent Remuneration Panel for Wales determining remuneration practice and rates in local government.

He is a graduate of the universities of Leeds and of Cardiff. He has lived in Llandaff with his wife for 25 years and they have family living and attending schools in the area.
