Claud Insole Memorial

April 12 @ 11:00 - 11:30

Amongst the Insole Court anniversaries that we mark each year, is the death in action of Captain Claud Insole MC on April 12th 1917. We do this in a short ceremony, at 11.00 am on April 12th – placing a wreath on his memorial tree at the top of the Acer Lawn.Claud was the eldest son of George Frederick Insole, and was amongst the first to volunteer for officer-training when the  Brigade of Welsh Guards was formed during the Great War. He was awarded the Military Cross for his gallantry in continuing to lead his men in battle whilst injured. After recovering at home he returned to the front in command of a company of Guards, only to be killed in action within a month.Alongside him we remember all those from the Insole Court estate who served in whatever capacity.
