Insole Court Tours
We offer a variety of different tours around Insole Court, hosted by local experts. Each tour will offer visitors an opportunity to gain a more in depth understanding of the house and its rich history.
1 General Guided Heritage Tour
Our introductory tour, provided by knowledgeable project volunteers, includes as many ground floor rooms as available (please ask at the time of booking), plus the Library on the 1st floor.
45minutes to 1 hour £50 for up to 10 people (larger groups will be sub-divided)

2 Architecture Tour by Dr Elaine Davey
Our specialist tour for those interested in design and architectural history provided by Dr Elaine Davey, Trustee. The tour will include as many ground floor rooms as available (please ask at time of booking) and the Library.

3 John Prior Morris’ Fred Insole Talk (seated)
Our dramatic experience! In this costumed and amusing presentation, Fred Insole tells the story of his family, whose Victorian rise and Edwardian decline mirrors Cardiff’s status during the same period.

4 Penarth Alabaster Talk by Mike Statham (seated)
An illustrated talk introducing the use of British alabaster, the earliest uses of Penarth alabaster up to 18th century, and its use in churches and secular buildings in 19th and 20th centuries.

5 This House is a Stage – An immersive audio tour of the upstairs rooms
Our experiential exhibition brings local history to life in the form of a dramatic rendition of the rise and the fall of the Insole Family who built and inhabited the mansion, spanning an entire century from their arrival in Cardiff in the 19th century.
For the first time since the 1970s, the first floor of our house is open to the public. Visitors can immerse themselves in the triumphs and tragedies of the Insole family by following theatrical voices through the abandoned rooms, hearing the family’s stories come to life through a mixture of audio technology and drama.
- Opening times: 10.30am – 3.30pm Daily. The audio show will take place every hour, on the half hour throughout the day. Pre-booking is not essential and tickets are available on the day, subject to availability. Runs for approximately 40 minutes.
- £5 for adults and free entry for under 16’s and Insole Court Supporters
