Preserving the Past
At Insole Court, preserving our historic site while preparing it for future generations is at the heart of everything we do. We’re excited to share some of the repair and upgrade work currently underway to ensure the Mansion and its surrounding spaces remain a beacon of heritage and community. This repair work has been made possible by the National Heritage Memorial Fund, Cadw and Cardiff Council.
As part of these works, the historic fireplace in the Edwardian Servants Hall has been uncovered and will once again take pride of place in this historic room.
, Building for the Future
Roof Repairs: A Step Towards Longevity
If you’ve visited recently, you might have noticed the scaffolding surrounding the Mansion. This has been erected to allow contractors to access the elevations and roof safely, beginning essential repair work. Over time, weather and wear have taken their toll, so these repairs will ensure the building remains watertight and structurally sound for years to come. This includes replacing damaged slates, repointing stonework and repairing damage to lead. This work is part of our broader commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Mansion’s historic architecture while safeguarding it against the elements.
Brighter and Greener: LED Lightbulb Upgrades
Sustainability is a priority for us, and we’ve taken a significant step forward by replacing our old lightbulbs with energy-efficient LEDs. Our chandeliers use old, increasingly rare, fittings which has made this change more costly and time-consuming than a modern building. By converting these fittings, we can not only reduce our energy consumption and carbon footprint but also provide improved lighting throughout the Mansion. Whether you are exploring the exhibits or attending an event, the brighter and more eco-friendly lighting enhances the atmosphere while helping us save on operational costs—money we can reinvest into the site.
Stable Yard Refresh: Painting and Room Upgrades
Meanwhile, over in the Stable Yard, our transformation project is well underway. The painting of these historic rooms has begun, bringing a fresh lease of life to this much-loved space. This involves using high quality, breathable paint, to protect these historic interiors. These upgrades are part of our plans to improve the functionality and aesthetics of the stable yard, making it a more welcoming area for visitors, workshops, and events.
