2019: Our Second Year of Weddings

Heledd Nannetti-Jones

27th Dec 2019

Our second year of weddings was just as wonderful, and varied as our first!
We hosted 21 wedding celebrations in total, with 18 of those couples tying the knot at Insole Court. Our first ceremony of 2019 was on the 16th of March, the last on November 2nd.
Our Drawing Room and Library proved ever popular as ceremony spaces once again. We hosted our smallest and largest weddings this year, welcoming groups of between 4 and 125 guests.
The celebrations have all been different styles tailored to each couple and their families, taking into consideration their passions, their hobbies and often where or how they met.

The personalisation of food and drink has been paramount this year. Our relationship with EJ Catering has grown from strength to strength. They continue to wow us with their personalised menus, ability to cater for dietary requirements and impeccable service on the day. As we reopen our onsite café, The Potting Shed, we hope to cater our smaller weddings ourselves and will be working on developing this, along with our in-house bar offer over the coming months.

Highlights of 2019 have been the entertainment, confetti, BBQs, the cakes, the 80s cinema, the boy band (headlined by the groom), the variety of Street Food vendors and the array of amazing grooms’ outfits -baby blue and emerald green suits, kilts and traditional Sri Lankan costumes complementing their stylish brides. The weather wasn’t on our side in 2019, but we’re so fortunate that there are a number of interesting spaces inside the house that are perfect for couple and group shots. Our mansion really is the perfect wet weather photo contingency spot! On days when we’ve had good weather our couples have been fortunate enough to enjoy our grounds. Special thanks goes to Cardiff Council and our Garden Volunteers for their exceptional work in maintaining the gardens to such a high standard.

I have been supported once more by an incredible team of Wedding Volunteers, a group of women who give up their time to ensure the most perfect day for each of our couples. Their contribution is invaluable and it’s a real delight to see how much our couples have appreciated this, too.
Thank you to all 21 couples who chose us to host your weddings at Insole Court in 2019. Thank you for trusting, supporting and investing in Insole Court on the most special of days.

Our first celebration of 2020 will be early in the year, on the 2nd of January. We’re hosting an opposite-sex Civil Partnership, one of the very first in Cardiff since this type of partnership becomes legal on December 31st, 2019. We hope you’ll enjoy seeing each of the 2020 celebrations, as much as we’ll enjoy hosting them!

“We chose Insole Court as our wedding venue after months of research (!) and are so glad we did.

Not the run-of-the-mill “wedding venue” churning out weddings every day, it is a unique and memorable setting to celebrate with family and friends.

Hiring the whole of the Insole Mansion, we pretty much utilised each room, allowing our guests to mingle between dancing to our live band in the Billards Room, to chatting in the Dining Room while eating the evening buffet spread, or taking some quiet time to themselves in the beautiful Reading Room. Licensed for civil ceremonies, we said our vows in the Drawing Room and later enjoyed our first meal there as Mr&Mrs; with our guests.

In terms of the organisation of the day, nothing was too much trouble. Heledd and the team were happy to oblige with pretty much everything we wanted! From alcoholic favours to decorating the venue, to plating our evening buffet food and anything & everything else to support and let us (the bride and groom) sit back and relax.

It was an absolute pleasure and privilege to be married in such a beautiful, historic building, built up and saved by the community. We really couldn’t have asked for more and we can’t wait to visit the venue in years to come for the various activities and pop-up cinemas they have organised.

We can only say thank you to Heledd, her team and kind volunteers who collectively helped us have the day we wanted and more.”
